KAL Updates and 0.5 FO

Tuesday is for Knitalongs. So says Alison, and who am I to disagree? This will be easy.

February Fix-It: Well, I ripped that Manos sweater. That went well. Unfortunately, my February Fix-It project was supposed to be ripping and reknitting Ribbita, and that hasn't even begun. Actually, I'm not really sure where Ribbita is... I think I packed her away with my summer clothes, which means the attic somewhere.

Fry-Up: Not begun. To tell the truth, I haven't even chosen my yarn colors yet, let alone cast on. I'm only 6 weeks behind.

Sockapalooza: Well, today was the deadline to send out socks. I missed it. But I have progress, and pictures to prove it!
Here is 0.5 Finished Objects:

One sock! I have even begun the second sock, but it's only a finished toe, so no pictures yet. The yarn is Fortissima Cotton, and it turned out rather more Crayola-esqe than I expected from looking at the skein. I thought the colors would be more muted... also, the black areas show up a bit more than I would like. But all in all I think they're bright and happy.
For the cuff, I swatched (swatched! don't faint - it doesn't happen often, but pigs do occasionally fly) and played around with stitch patterns. I was going to go with a wavy rib, with beads in the purl ditches between the ribs. I thought that looked pretty good. But I loved the "wrong" side even more... so I'm knitting it inside out. I like the way the knit columns wind up looking like cables even though they're just knit stitches. The picture isn't the best, but you can kind of make it out. I'll try to get a better photo later. (The wavy rib picture is the inside of the sock cuff - cool how it works out that way, no?)

Only 3/4 of a sock to go! (more or less) I am going with the theory that the second sock will go quicker. The toe already has... the first one took most of a cross-country flight (4 hours), the second only about 2 hours. They are my sole (ha!) project until they're done... we'll see how much knitting time I have this week.

Hey!

So, long time no blog, eh? Sorry - another work emergency had me out of town for the past week. I'm sure you've seen it on the news. Heck, you might have seen ME on the news (I was on the national news on Monday morning). I'm not really sure how much I want to blend work and my blog at this point, so I'm not going to link to it, but I was in the Florida Keys and I'm a marine biologist. There you go - try a google news search if it doesn't help. E-mail me if you want more details.

So, what have I done in the meantime? Not much knitting, truthfully. Another 4 rows on Clapotis, and I'm working on the cuff of my Sockapalooza sock. The first one. Sorry, sock pal - these aren't going to make it to you by March 15th. I'm going to dedicate all knitting time to these socks until they're done, but it will still be a little bit of time. Pictures to come when I finish sock 1.

Right now I'm trying to clean up all of the blog comment spam - there is a particular level of Hell for spammers, right? Although that link to the headache drugs was looking attractive the other day... ;)

Hope everyone else has been doing well!
