I got to hang out with Lolly (always fun) and since she flagged me down as I walked by her table in the cafe (oblivious), I got to meet Ann & Kay over dinner before their talk. Lovely ladies both, and fun stories, and cool book. And they like linen yarn, too! (I made my Honeymoon Cami out of 100% linen) If they're coming to a town near you be sure to catch them.
And, funny story, I went out to get lunch on Wednesday around 3 PM (one of those days), and as I walked up to the local sandwich shop, Ann and Kay walked around the corner. Extremely surreal, especially when I said "Hi, Ann and Kay" and they recognized me (or at least my Clapotis) and said Hi back. And then we talked about how strange it was to run into one another on the street. And then I took my lunch back to work (really one of those days) and they went to be famous on the radio, which apparently has a studio quite close to my office (who knew?). I just hope I'm not promoted to Cara-like stalker status. (That's the real reason I didn't go to the 2 other DC-area events - don't want to look too much like a stalker, you know)
OK, let's have a wee contest, shall we?
Actually, it's like two simultaneous contests. But I'll explain that in just a moment.
Several of you asked in the last post exactly how many packages of Kool-Aid I purchased to get a receipt that long. The truth is I didn't bother to count, so I didn't know, but I immediately thought "That makes a great contest!"
To enter: add a comment or email me your guess with how many packages of Kool-Aid are on the receipt. The person who comes the closest will win a skein of Kool-Aid dyed sock yarn.
Of course, in the last entry I also promised a small prize to the person who wrote the 1,000th comment. We're not there yet, but this entry should do the trick. That person will also get a skein of dyed sock-yarn. If they happen to be the same person, I'll figure out what to do with that at that point.
For fun, we'll say one entry (comment) per person. (So don't cheat, Mom...)
(But Karen, I rebuilt my blog archives, so you should be able to get into January now - just in case ;) )
Posted by Sarah at April 14, 2006 11:57 PM | in: contest | PermalinkI'm going to guess 135.
(I wanted to cry for you when I saw that dried-up sauce pan and the brown yarn!)
Posted by: Mel on April 15, 2006 08:52 AMI'm going to guess a number under 100 because no one in their right mind would buy over 100 packages of Kool-Aid; right? (koff koff :-) On the other hand ... 157.
Posted by: Dave on April 15, 2006 09:18 AMI'm going to guess 197 packets of Kool-aid. Despite your wonderful-ness in restoring your archives, I think I'll refrain to show good sportsmanship. (But I've still got my fingers crossed!)
Posted by: Karen on April 15, 2006 12:31 PMI'll guess 176 - probably too many, but I'll be entered into the other contest! Ann & Kay were terrific at Stitch DC on Thursday - I'm already contemplating log cabining a rug...
Posted by: natalie on April 15, 2006 03:02 PMMy guess is 576. I did some math based on height and lines per inch on receipts, but it seems really high. Oh well.
Posted by: Kris on April 15, 2006 10:15 PMI had a big receipt like that that was nothing but koolaid. Yours tops it, I must say.
My guess is 330.
Posted by: Jenny on April 15, 2006 11:07 PMI'm going to say 136 for the kool-aid packs.
I wish I could have been there for Mason-Dixon meetup! Can't wait til MDS&W!!!!
Posted by: Amy on April 16, 2006 02:53 AMDid you ever think...maybe THEY were stalking YOU- turn around! Quick!
I will guess eighty (80) packets of Kool-aid.
That yarn...so sad, so sad... And time for new batteries in the smoke detector.
Posted by: Jackie on April 16, 2006 10:21 AMHmmmm....713...but you would have to give the yarn to somebody else more deserving (ya know somebody that knits...like your mother :-)
Posted by: Dad on April 16, 2006 12:52 PMIt's been awhile since I read your blog, and as I go from the top down I haven't even seen the receipt yet, which makes my guess all the less scientific! Mine is 187! Is this like Price is Right, the closest to it without going over? :)
Posted by: Jenna on April 17, 2006 10:05 AMI also used my math skills and estimated that you are probably close to my height and therefore my arm's reach and based on my grocery store's receipts of 7 items per inch and some extra length for the store's header and the closing out of the sale, I am going to guess that you purchased 511 packets.
Posted by: trek on April 17, 2006 10:08 AMI'm not happy with where my calculations have led me, so I'm going to guess a nice round 250.
Ooh, that random street meeting with Ann and Kay is a little freaky. DC may be a city, but it's a small one.
My guess is 488, using my own clever math skills. Math whiz, I am not. Hehehe. . . (Though, I'd like to see any store that has 488 packets of Kool-Aid on display at one time. . .and if all of the packets are in that one little bag in the photo, I'm WAY off.)
Posted by: sarah w (yes, me too!) on April 17, 2006 01:11 PMI'm guessing 137. Just a random guess, but unless I was just dumping boxes of koolaid packages into my basket, anything over 100 would be too many. Actually, anything over 7 would be too many.
Posted by: Sue on April 17, 2006 05:17 PMWoo! What a blast! I love that pic of you and Kay chatting it up ;) Great to spend time with you last week (TWICE!)
So, I will venture a guess too: 204 ;)
Posted by: Lolly on April 18, 2006 08:00 AMMy guess is based on the 8/$1 because that's what would appeal to me too! So how about 360?
Posted by: Sarah on April 18, 2006 08:39 AMumm.. i think you bought 485 packets... you must love your feet to be buying them all this yummy sock yarn, have fun...
Posted by: Tisha on April 18, 2006 03:24 PM200! That's $25 worth...not too bad for a yarn dyeing frenzy, eh?
Posted by: Yvonne on April 19, 2006 11:05 AMI'm going to guess that it is 218 boxes of Koolaid - am I right??? Looks like you'll be having lots of fun with that.
Posted by: Allison on April 19, 2006 09:29 PMCome on, come on, announce the winner already! *jumping up and down impatiently* Or at least announce a deadline for guesses, otherwise this will last forever!!!!!
